Monday night, the council directed staff to put together an ordinance that would ban storefront dispensaries but allow nonprofit, primary caregivers to get marijuana for their patients.

A 21-year-old Lomond Court man, John David Lifford, 21, surrendered his driver's licence in provincial court after pleading guilty to driving while over the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and to possession of marijuana. Judge William McCarroll fined him $1,000 for the driving offense and ordered him to pay a victim fine surcharge of $150. Lifford blew readings of 190 and 180 milligrams. The judge also fined him $100 for possessing 3.8 grams of marijuana. Lifford was given until March, 9, 2009, to pay the $1,250 in fines in full.
